We Came This Way
A Journey Along The Black Walnut Trail
FIRST PLAY
THE DECISION
Playwright: Liz Benneian
Bucks County, Pennsylvania was a comfortable home for many years to the German settlers. However, by 1799 many were thinking that this was no longer the place for them. New land and prospects beckoned along the Black Walnut Trail into Canada, but pulling up deep roots and leaving all you know behind is not as easy or as exciting as it may seem, particularly when it comes to leaving possessions and loved ones behind.

One of the first things the new settlers wanted was a minister. After the old community in Pennsylvania refused to send one, the new community decided to use a tried and true method of choosing a minister of their own. Not everyone was thrilled by the idea.

THE SINGING SCHOOL
Playwright: Marilyn Bellfontaine
The first Samuel Moyer to come to this area was also the first school master and choir director. School was a strict affair, so the evening singing school times, created to teach the young people to sing well in church, doubled as a social life for the young people, especially the teens. Of course that was if they could avoid the all-seeing eye of the teacher.

STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND
